Family discipleship

As a church we value family discipleship. Family is where discipleship happens the most and the strongest. We believe that parents are called to disciple their kids to be like Christ and to help kids know, follow, and trust God.This is a place for you to find resources to better disciple your family during the week.

Sunday's Main point and story

Main Point: God is Forgiving.

Passage: Luke 22:54-62
Story: Peter Denies Jesus and Jesus forgives him.

As Jesus is on trial and beaten, people recognize Peter as one of Jesus’ followers, but he denies it three times. Peter feels horrible. Later, when Jesus has died and come back to life, he gives Peter three chances to say he loves him, a sign of forgiveness and a second chance.

  • After a meal that generates a lot of dishes, do them all as a family! Even if that’s normally one person’s chore, work together so everyone plays a role in doing the dishes.
  • As you do, talk about what it takes to get the dishes clean. Compare the ones you can just rinse off and the ones you really have to scrub.
  • Talk about how God’s forgiveness is like cleaning the dishes, and when you’ve needed a rinse versus a scrub.

October Memory Verse

Philippians 4:13

"I can do all things through him who strengthens me."

We want kids to memorize this verse so that when they face hard and challenging times they remember that God has power. In Philippians, Paul is discussing all of the challenges he has faced. Verse 12 says, " I know how to be brought low, and I know how to abound. In any and every circumstance, I have learned the secret of facing plenty and hunger, abundance and need. " So, this verse brings encouragement that no matter the circumstances we face Jesus will be there with them and give them the strength they need. Remember that Jesus is powerful and in control of every circumstance .
